They would like Mr. Markham to write an article for their June issue. They have had several authors write articles. Such as, Miss Repplier, Mr. Higginson, and Mr. Arthur Henry Lewis. They wanted him to write an article on poetry. They also include a copy of their magazine and their pay scale.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901).
